Thanks and Acknowledgements
I would like to thank the following people for all their help:
Firstly, my dad, Ken Nicholls, sadly no longer with us, who inspired me and got me going in my research, my husband, Nick, who has gone along with my desire to find out more, helped in researching, trawling the net, driving out of our way to meet up with the Pilot’s nephew whilst on holiday in France, patiently explained cropping photos, technical terms etc.
I would like to thank Ian Heasman for his encouragement, F/O Nigel Carrall’s brother, Duane, who provided me with new documents and photos, his nephew also called Nigel Carrall, Flt Sgt Gorton’s daughter, Diane Rogers, who has provided me with lots of encouragement, photos, documents about her father, Sgt Horace Lindsay’s nephew, Graham Powney, who sent me documents including a handwritten letter of condolence written by my Uncle to his family in 1945 and the family of F/O Terence McGrath who responded to my advert in a Sydney newspaper.
Thanks also to the 158 Squadron Archivists who have provided me with useful information and answered my queries, Bluey Mottershead of 158 Squadron Association and Theo Boiten, author of “Nachtjagd War Diaries An Operational History of the German Night Fighter Force in the West Vol 2 April 1944 to May 1945”.
Gratitude also to my sister, Susan, a fluent German speaker who has contacted the Town of Bochum on my behalf and obtained photographs of the town after the bombing raid and thanks also to the Town of Bochum who are allowing us to use their photos on our website.
Last but not least, my badminton friends, Katt and Doug, who patiently showed me how to build this website.
